Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Company achieved record delivery volumes in 2007. Total throughput — the amount of natural gas transported — was a record 141 million decatherms.  This amount represents a 7.5 percent increase over 2006 levels.

Strong customer demand for storage services and to move natural gas off system contributed to record throughput. The location of the company’s interstate pipeline system provides producers with access to the Mid-Continent market, where prices have been consistently higher than in the Rocky Mountain Region. Higher Rocky Mountain natural gas production is increasing demand for natural gas transportation services.

Many projects in 2007
Williston Basin expanded firm capacity on its Grasslands Pipeline by about 40 percent in 2007. The expansion project involved adding and modifying compression facilities to increase firm delivery capacity by 41 MMcf per day. The Grasslands Pipeline is now capable of transporting 138 MMcf per day on a firm basis, which increases the interstate pipeline system’s overall natural gas transportation capability to more than 650 MMcf per day. Williston Basin also added several new connections to its 3,700-mile transmission pipeline system to receive natural gas from new supply sources.

Customers recognized Williston Basin in 2007 for providing excellent service. A 2007 industry wide survey administered by Mastio & Co. ranked the company 11th out of 41 pipelines in overall customer service.

Busy year ahead
Williston Basin expects 2008 to be a busy year. A pipeline expansion project into eastern North Dakota to serve new load is expected to increase firm capacity by approximately 10 MMcf per day. A second pipeline expansion project based on demand associated with the Bakken play in western North Dakota and eastern Montana and designed to move gas to the Northern Border Pipeline is also planned which will add up to 32 MMcf per day of firm capacity.  Both projects are expected to be operational by year end. We are also looking into a proposed pipeline addition in north-central North Dakota to transport new volumes of produced natural gas from the Bakken formation to the Alliance Pipeline which delivers to major metropolitan markets in the mid-continent region of the country.
